The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate and recover over N25 trillion reportedly stolen by leaders and government officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This call was made in the party’s statement on the eve of 2025.
Addressing Key Issues in 2025: Insecurity, Fuel, and Food Crisis
The PDP called on President Tinubu to address critical issues such as insecurity, fuel shortages, and food crises that have left many Nigerians suffering. These concerns were highlighted in a New Year address titled ‘Address Insecurity, Fuel, Food Crisis’ by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologuagba.
The party also pressed the president to take immediate action in 2025 to alleviate the ongoing struggles of the people. The PDP emphasized the need for tangible measures to resolve these issues, which have burdened the nation for far too long.
PDP’s Call for Concrete Action in 2025
The PDP congratulated Nigerians on the arrival of 2025, while urging President Tinubu not to repeat the empty rhetoric of previous speeches. In its message, the PDP said, “@OfficialPDPNig congratulates Nigerians on the dawning of the year 2025 and charges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT not to taint the new year with an address that will not proffer immediate and concrete steps to reduce the price of fuel, address widespread hunger, and provide clear-cut measures to guarantee security of lives and property in the country.”
The party criticized the president for past speeches that failed to address the root causes of the nation’s challenges. “Previous addresses by Mr. President in the last 18 months dwelt only on hopeless rhetoric, unsubstantiated statistics, false promises, and conjured performance claims,” it said. The PDP emphasized the need for real solutions in 2025.
Focus on Corruption and Wasteful Spending in 2025
The PDP also called for a focus on corruption and wasteful government spending. “The PDP maintains that President Tinubu must speak to the issues of unbridled corruption, deceit, budget padding, reckless and wasteful spending,” the statement said. The party believes that the current government has ignored the suffering of Nigerians while enriching a few.
The PDP further pressed the president to take action on the billions of Naira that reportedly accrued from the removal of fuel subsidies. The party demands transparency and accountability regarding the use of these funds.
Investigating N25tn Stolen by APC Leaders in 2025
The PDP called for the investigation and recovery of over N25 trillion allegedly stolen by APC leaders and officials. The statement highlighted the misuse of government agencies as “Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)” to siphon funds for personal gain. This widespread corruption, the PDP asserts, continues to deepen the poverty and suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
Furthermore, the party emphasized the failure of the APC government to address state-backed killings. The PDP noted the importance of revisiting the cases of the 2020 EndSARS protests and the subsequent massacre, which remains unresolved. These actions, according to the PDP, continue to haunt the nation in 2025.
PDP’s Concerns About APC’s Governance in 2025
The PDP also expressed concern over the APC government’s oppressive policies, which have worsened the economic and social conditions in the country. “The last 18 months have been the most excruciating period for Nigerians since the Civil War,” the statement said. The party highlighted the rise in suicide rates and the increasing desperation of citizens seeking escape abroad due to the dire state of affairs.
The PDP cautioned the APC against continuing its luxury-driven policies in 2025. The party warned that such attitudes would further strain the patience of Nigerians, who continue to endure the impact of reckless governance.
Hope for Nigeria in 2025: A Call for Unity and Action
Despite these challenges, the PDP encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to defending the country’s democracy. The party urged the public to approach 2025 with optimism for a new dawn and continued resistance to oppression. The PDP believes that through unity and active participation, Nigerians can return the country to stability and economic prosperity.
“We urge Nigerians not to lose hope in the nation but remain law-abiding and approach 2025 with optimism,” the PDP said. It concluded by wishing Nigerians a prosperous 2025, filled with hope for a better future.
