Governor Seyi Makinde reiterated his commitment to transparency in selecting the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade. Speaking during the presentation of the instruments of office on January 12, 2025, Makinde clarified that he met the new Alaafin for the first time after his appointment.

The governor disclosed that he met Prince Owoade for the first time a day before the official presentation. He added that he deliberately avoided involvement in the selection process to maintain fairness.

Makinde highlighted his administration’s commitment to unbiased governance, recalling past decisions regarding traditional institutions. He stated, “When selecting Okere, I approved based on merit, not political affiliation.”

The governor warned those attempting to undermine the traditional institution in Oyo, vowing legal action against offenders unless forgiven by Kabiyesi. He asserted, “The government will prosecute anyone trying to destabilize the traditional institution unless pardoned by the Alaafin.”
