An American returnee, David Segun, alongside accomplices, has been arrested by Lagos State Police for allegedly killing an Uber driver.
American Returnee, Three Others, Accused of Murder in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command revealed that the 21-year-old American returnee conspired with three others to rob and kill an Uber driver. The suspects reportedly ordered a ride from Chevron in Lekki to Obalende at midnight on January 9. On reaching a secluded area, they stabbed the driver multiple times in the neck.
Commissioner of Police Ishola Olanrewaju disclosed, “On January 9, 2025, these individuals conspired to commit armed robbery and murder in Obalende.”
Arrest of American Returnee and Accomplices
Two suspects were caught on the spot by local residents and handed over to the police. The remaining suspects were later apprehended in the Chevron area. The body of the Uber driver has been deposited at Mainland Hospital, Yaba.
The police commissioner added, “This is their team leader, an American returnee sent back by his father. Unfortunately, his mother could not control him either.”
Lagos Police Detail Investigation into Alleged Crimes
The investigation has begun, with Segun identified as the gang leader. Authorities condemned the act, questioning the worth of the vehicle compared to the value of human life.
Other suspects involved in crimes like kidnapping, carjacking, and cultism were also paraded at the state command.

Police efforts ensured a peaceful yuletide season in Lagos despite the incident. Commissioner Olanrewaju noted the city’s handling of increased activity, including over 500,000 diasporan Nigerians arriving at Murtala Muhammed Airport.
