The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has confirmed the death sentence for Dr. Ramon Adedoyin. Adedoyin, a well-known hotel owner, was convicted of murdering Timothy Adegoke, an ex-Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The appellate court delivered its ruling on Thursday. It affirmed the Osun State High Court’s earlier decision sentencing Ramon Adedoyin to death.
The judgment, previously reserved on October 29, 2024, was delivered with clarity. According to the court, “The judgment of the High Court of Ọ̀ṣun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
However, the appellate court made some modifications to the earlier ruling. It stated, “Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”
A Tragic Incident at Ramon Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel
Timothy Adegoke was discovered dead in November 2021 at Hilton Honours Hotel, Ile-Ife, owned by Ramon Adedoyin. The deceased had lodged at the hotel during a visit to Ile-Ife.
On January 29, 2022, Adegoke’s body was buried beside his parents’ home in New Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, Oyo State. Family members, friends, and beneficiaries gathered to mourn the late Master of Business Administration student. His widow, Bolatito, was inconsolable and refused to leave his graveside despite repeated pleas.
Police Investigation Into Ramon Adedoyin’s Case
In March 2022, Afeez Olaniyan, the Investigative Police Officer, testified in court regarding Adegoke’s death. He explained how some defendants, connected to Ramon Adedoyin’s hotel, disposed of Adegoke’s corpse.
According to Olaniyan, staffers Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem confessed during interrogation. They revealed that after Adegoke’s death, his body was wrapped in a duvet and transported in a Hilux van. The vehicle, driven by Roheem Adedoyin, the son of Ramon Adedoyin, was used to dump the corpse in a bush.
Expert Testimony on Adegoke’s Cause of Death
A consultant pathologist from Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Waheed Oluogun, provided a medical perspective. He stated that Timothy Adegoke died from severe haemorrhage caused by a traumatic injury. His findings highlighted the brutal nature of the crime.
