Edo PDP Crisis: APC Clears Gov. Okpebholo of Attack Allegations

The acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has defended Governor Monday Okpebholo. He clarified that the Governor had no involvement in the attack on three local government council secretariats. According to Tenebe, the attack stemmed from internal conflicts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Internal Tensions Linked to Crisis, Not Governor Okpebholo

In a statement on Saturday, Tenebe dismissed the allegations against Governor Okpebholo as baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized that Okpebholo values the rule of law and democratic principles. The accusations came from Tony Aziegbemi, the PDP state chairman, who alleged that the Governor deployed thugs to carry out the attacks.

Tenebe stated, “Investigations and evidence from reliable sources confirm that these allegations lack merit. They are misleading and politically driven.”

Evidence Highlights PDP Crisis as Cause of Secretariats’ Attack

According to Tenebe, evidence points to ongoing power struggles within PDP factions as the root cause. He noted that rival groups within local councils were fighting for dominance. These conflicts, he explained, led to the destruction witnessed at the council secretariats.

Tenebe explained, “Eyewitnesses and stakeholders revealed that violence was initiated by opposing PDP factions seeking control of the secretariats.”

Governor’s Administration Maintains Focus on Resolving PDP Crisis

Governor Okpebholo’s administration has prioritized resolving disputes and ensuring peaceful council operations. Tenebe highlighted that the Governor has consistently respected court orders and injunctions related to council issues.

“Governor Okpebholo has consistently adhered to legal rulings while promoting transparency and accountability,” Tenebe asserted.

PDP Crisis Overshadows Governance in Edo State

The APC chairman concluded by urging PDP factions to resolve their differences. He reiterated that Governor Okpebholo remains committed to peace and good governance.

“Efforts by the Governor’s administration are focused on ensuring stability within the councils and addressing the ongoing PDP crisis,” Tenebe added.
