The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed that 27 officers were dismissed last year for misconduct. This action was based on recommendations from the EFCC Staff Disciplinary Committee and approved by the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. The dismissal demonstrates the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing integrity within its ranks.
The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, announced the development in a statement released on Monday. He highlighted the agency’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption, reaffirming that no officer is above disciplinary measures.
EFCC Sacks Officers Amidst $400,000 Fraud Allegation
The EFCC is investigating a $400,000 fraud allegation involving a supposed staff member and a Sectional Head. The matter is being thoroughly probed to uphold accountability within the commission.
Ola Olukoyede reiterated that all allegations against EFCC staff are treated with seriousness. He assured the public of the commission’s commitment to transparency and impartiality.
EFCC Sacks Officers and Warns Against Impersonators
The EFCC has warned the public about impersonators exploiting its chairman’s name for fraudulent purposes. These individuals allegedly target high-profile suspects, demanding bribes under false pretences.
Two suspects, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. They reportedly attempted to extort $1 million from a former Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director.
The EFCC urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving impersonators. It also emphasised that the chairman remains steadfast and immune to external monetary influences.
Blackmail Attempts Against EFCC Officers After Dismissals
The EFCC noted that some individuals resort to blackmail after failing to compromise investigators. These tactics aim to discredit the agency’s efforts in combating financial crimes. The commission encouraged the public to disregard such malicious acts.
Dele Oyewale reaffirmed that Ola Olukoyede’s integrity is unquestionable. He advised the public to report any blackmail attempts to the EFCC promptly.
Commitment to Accountability Despite Challenges
The EFCC Chairman stated that the agency’s core values remain unwavering. The commission is determined to uphold transparency, discipline, and fairness in its fight against corruption. The dismissals and ongoing investigations reflect its resolve to rid the agency of fraudulent elements.
