Bello Matawalle warns former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has strongly condemned what he described as ‘reckless and inciting’ remarks allegedly made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, regarding President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Matawalle Warns Amaechi Against Inciting Comments
In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, it was revealed that Amaechi allegedly stated that Nigerian politicians must “steal, maim, and kill” to stay in power.
The former Rivers State governor allegedly made these statements at a recent conference in Abuja. Matawalle said these remarks not only insult Nigerians’ intelligence but also attempt to radicalise the youth while destabilising national peace and security.
Reckless Remarks Are Dangerous, Says Matawalle
Matawalle cautioned against such dangerous rhetoric, stating: “It is both reckless and dangerous for a former public officeholder to make such inflammatory remarks. At a time when the government is tirelessly working to consolidate national unity and security, no responsible leader should fan the flames of violence and political unrest.”
He warned that misleading young Nigerians with a false narrative of violence and anarchy would not be tolerated. According to him, Nigeria is a sovereign nation governed by laws, not a battleground where power is seized through force.
Security Agencies on High Alert as Matawalle Warns Amaechi
Matawalle issued a stern warning: “Let me make it clear: the security agencies are on high alert. Any individual or group found inciting violence or attempting to destabilise this nation will face the full force of the law. We will not tolerate any subversive rhetoric aimed at undermining national unity or inciting lawlessness.”
He reminded Amaechi that power is attained through democracy, not intimidation, violence, or lawlessness. He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to upholding peace, democratic principles, and the security of all Nigerians.
Tinubu’s Leadership Stands Strong
Matawalle reiterated Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to national unity and progress. He noted that having experienced both military and democratic rule, the president would never undermine the democracy he has fought to protect.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements within a short period, Matawalle assured that Tinubu will secure a decisive victory in the 2027 presidential election. He urged Nigerians to trust Tinubu’s leadership while dismissing the ‘vituperations’ of Amaechi and his associates, whom he described as politically irrelevant and detached from national development realities.
Government Will Not Tolerate Chaos, Matawalle Warns Amaechi
Matawalle cautioned that individuals attempting to manipulate the youth into chaos should rethink their actions. “This government will not fold its arms and allow any individual to disrupt the peace and stability of Nigeria,” he asserted.
He assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, will continue monitoring activities aimed at disrupting public peace. Any individual or group found guilty of inciting unrest will face severe consequences.
