Nigerian Army Arrests IPOB Members, Destroys Illegal Refineries

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army confirmed the arrest of 25 individuals for alleged oil theft. Among them were four suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The operatives also dismantled 23 illegal refineries and confiscated 45,000 litres of stolen products. These operations highlight the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to combat economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.

Nigerian Army Targets Oil Thieves and Dismantles Illegal Refineries

Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division Army Public Relations, issued a statement. He explained that the operations took place between January 12 and 19, 2025.

He stated, “Troops have deactivated 23 illegal refineries and destroyed 14 boats in the Niger Delta.” These efforts aim to prevent the illegal siphoning of the region’s resources.

Nigerian Army Arrests Four IPOB Members in Delta State

The statement further noted that four suspected IPOB members were apprehended in Oshimili Local Government Area. This occurred during a series of targeted operations in Delta State.

Recovered items included motorcycles, hollow pipes, and empty gallons used for illicit activities. These findings underline the Nigerian Army’s vigilance in disrupting IPOB-linked activities.

Troops Intercept Stolen Products Across the Niger Delta

The Nigerian Army reported significant recoveries across various locations. At Buguma in Rivers State, they destroyed four boats carrying over 2,700 litres of stolen products.

In Finima, Bonny Local Government Area, a barge allegedly transporting stolen Automotive Gas Oil was seized. These operations demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s intensified focus on economic security.

Crackdown on Illegal Activities in Bayelsa and Delta States

Troops intercepted two vehicles loaded with illegally refined AGO in Bayelsa. The vehicles were handled in compliance with the operational mandate.

In Delta State, the Army dismantled dugout pits containing stolen products in Burutu Local Government Area. Such efforts emphasize the Army’s commitment to addressing resource theft.

Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Security

The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their resilience. He encouraged them to sustain efforts against IPOB and other criminal elements.

The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in denying criminal elements any foothold in the Niger Delta. This commitment aligns with their broader goal of ensuring economic and social stability.
