Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed profound sorrow regarding civilian casualties from the Sokoto Airstrikes on December 25, 2024. The airstrikes targeted terrorist hideouts in the Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities of Silame Local Government Area. The operation aimed to dismantle a logistics base used by the Lakurawa insurgent group.

Tragically, the Sokoto Airstrikes resulted in the deaths of around ten villagers, with several others injured during the operation. Shettima acknowledged the unintended consequences of the military’s efforts, offering heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He described the incident as a painful reminder of the complexities involved in counter-terrorism operations.
In his statement, Shettima said, “We are deeply sorry for the civilian casualties caused by the Sokoto Airstrikes. Our thoughts are with the grieving families.” He also emphasized that the loss of innocent lives, though tragic, was an unfortunate byproduct of efforts to protect the nation.
